Basic Rider Course

The Basic Rider Course is approximately 15 hours of classroom and on-cycle instruction conducted over a two day session. Basic motorcycle techniques as well as defensive maneuvers are covered in the class. The Basic Rider Course is designed for the beginner who wants to learn to ride a motorcycle and for the experienced rider who wants to sharpen their riding skills. Students must be able to balance a two-wheeled bicycle to attend. This course is physically and mentally challenging and students must be in good health to participate.
**IMPORTANT** The State of Texas requires all BRC students to complete an online eCourse (free upon registration), print the completion certificate, and bring that certificate to the start of class. (Certificate must include: name, completion date, certificate ID#). Students will not be permitted in the class without this completion certificate. Your confirmation will have the information you will need on how to complete the eCourse prior to the class. The eCourse takes approximately three hours to complete. Please be sure to allow adequate time to complete the eCourse prior to the class.

Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2)

This course for practicing and renewing basic riding skills. Students use their own motorcycle. For those riders seeking to improve their understanding of street survival skills, skills in cornering, braking, and swerving to avoid obstacles, this course is for you!
This course consists of approximately 5 hours of on-cycle instruction, on a paved area away from street traffic. Upon completion of Basic Rider Course 2, you will receive a Texas Department of Public Safety standardized Motorcycle Operator Course Completion Card (MSB-8), similar to the one that was issued upon completion of the Basic Rider Course specifying that you completed the Basic Rider Course 2. Completion of this course may qualify for ticket dismissal, dependent upon the court’s approval, and usually for insurance discounts.

3-Wheel Basic Rider Course (3WBRC) – Maximum 4 students

Texas Moto Academy offers the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's program for Trike and Spyder riders, the 3-Wheeled Basic Rider Course (3WBRC).

The 3WBRC training consists of: • 4 hours of Classroom instruction, held on the first day, followed by approximately 8 hours of riding on the following day. • Class is limited to 4 students allowing you more one-on-one instruction. • Students use their own Trike or Spyder and provide their own DOT-certified helmet during the class. • Your Trike or Spyder must be registered, insured, and street-legal. Upon completion of the 3WBRC, students receive a Completion Certificate to take to the DPS driver license office to obtain a Restricted "M" Endorsement to operate a Trike or Spyder. This restricted endorsement does not allow for the operation of a motorcycle or scooter.

Your Completion Certificate may also allow a discount on your Trike Insurance, and Discounts on purchases on gear and/or services at many dealerships.
